New Artist on the Block
Its Bucks Art Weeks and I'd like to introduce you to a new kid on the block, Zoe Scott is currently exhibiting as part of the BAWS ‘Chalfont Summer Art Trail’ in Chalfont St Peter.
This is Zoe’s first time to publicly exhibit her beautiful illustrations. She is currently taken residence within Fired Works, Marie Cavangh’s beautiful glass shop at the top of Market Place in the village.

Bucks Art Weeks is on this week it closes on Sunday. You can visit Fired Works every day, as they are open 10 to 5 until Saturday and 11 to 4 on Sunday.

Zoe Scott - Illustrator
“I am a mostly self-taught fantasy, science fiction and architecture artist, working in a variety of mediums including watercolour and acrylic paints, fine liner and marker pens. I am a member of an international Artist Trading Card group, called ATC It Up With Friends. ATCs are a small art format, measuring just 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches.
I've always enjoyed art, visiting exhibitions and galleries and exploring new ideas and mediums. Having followed a variety of artists on social media and seeing the sheer number of opportunities to join in, in October 2017 I decided to jump in with an Instagram month-long drawing challenge called Inktober and have participated in that every year since. It's a great way to keep the creative inspiration flowing. “
“My art is inspired by walking around villages, towns and cities and the huge variety of architecture that can be found around the world. I aim to work on my art a little bit every single day, not necessarily finishing a piece, but working on something. The fantasy / science fiction aspect of my work can be inspired by taking the mundane or everyday, adding my own fantastical twist and transporting it to another location or even world. With the ATC group there is a monthly theme and usually a card specification requirement, so that is always the jumping off point. We aim to challenge and take ourselves out of our comfort zone, so every month is a fun experience. For my architectural art, it generally starts with a building I have seen while out and about and mulling over just how fantastical I want to make it. The ideas for all aspects of my art are quite fluid and the colours and added extras seem to arrive in their own time, which doesn't mean to say there isn't a lot of pencil and rubbing out before the ink makes it onto the paper! “

“One of the biggest art challenges for me is trying to overcome the imposter syndrome. There are so many amazing artists out there, I have to work hard not to compare myself to them and overthink the wondering why I'm doing this when they are doing it so much better. A big piece of advice I'd give aspiring artists is to be true to themselves and not compare themselves to the work of others. As the saying goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time, so if you can please yourself with what you're creating that's the best place you can be and if you can make time to create every day that will help too.
At the moment I am working on a watercolour painting of a local building and the cards for my water fantasy / science fiction theme month for the ATC It Up With Friends group, so I currently have the great mix I like."
