DO YOU HAVE ART WHICH NEEDS CONSERVING?

Emerald offers a full restoration and conservation service for oil paintings, watercolours, pastels, maps, drawings, etchings and prints, from the 18th Century to the modern day.

Old frames can also be assessed, repaired and refinished.

PROFESSIONAL REPAIRS,

RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION

Choosing to restore an artwork can significantly improve the long term condition of the piece. We can clean oil paintings, remove discoloured varnish and repair any tears or holes.

Discolouration, staining and tears on maps or prints can be removed and repaired, and a traditional hand colouring service is also available.

We are able to de-acidify watercolours, restoring the paper’s original colour without damaging the painting, and our conservator can also linen-back artwork that requires this stability for the future.

Ideally all artwork should be in a stable condition prior to framing.

Once a piece has been restored, it is important to employ conservation techniques in framing so that the problems are less able to reoccur.

Cath is one of a small number of picture framers nationally to hold the GCF Advanced Accreditation in Conservation framing, and we are happy to discuss the principles of Conservation Framing.

All work is carried out by an experienced art conservator. Oil paintings, maps, prints and watercolours restored and repaired. Foxing treated and cleaned.

document for conservation

“What a transformation! We inherited a beautiful landscape painting, that sadly was in a sorry state. It was dark and had a hole in the canvas and not fit to hang on the wall.

We had the painting transformed through Emerald’s conservation service. It was cleaned and the hole was repaired – you couldn’t see evidence of any former damage. The finished painting arrived back re-varnished and it looks fantastic.”
