FAQ’s

What are Commended / Certified Framers?

Qualified framers have been awarded an emblem of excellence by the art and framing industry’s trade association, the Fine Art Trade Guild.

Working with a Certified Framer will guarantee you that the framer is up to date with current industry standards and practice. Their skills, both practical and theoretical have been examined by a Guild examiner.

The primary aim of the Certified Framer scheme is to help the public select a professional framer who will apply a high level of expertise to the conservation and display of their artwork.

Guild Certified Framers are competent to give up to date advice on technical and conservation matters, as well as design and presentation, while keeping to a budget. Guild Certified Framer is the UK’s only recognised framing qualification. As well as the base qualification, there are Advanced modules which cover Conservation Framing, Textile Framing and Mount Design and Function.

How do you access the Art Conservation Service?

Book an appointment to bring the artwork you would like to be assessed with Cath or Dave as usual. We can reveiw your artwork and discuss the condition and potential conservation opportunities for the art. We will require you to leave your art with us, and we will ask Niki to reveiw and provide an assessment of each picture. This process may take a short time, as Niki visits us fortnightly to provide this service.

All conservation assessments are free and there is no commitment to proceed. If you would like Niki to conserve the artwortk, she will complete this at her studio and return it to us when it is ready. We will call you to notify you when it is returned.
