We framed Olympic shorts worn by Tom Daley

At Emerald Frames & Gallery, we often frame unusual art and items, with a surprise or two often arriving on our assessment table, so when we found a (very small) pair of swimming trunks worn by Tom Daley requiring display alongside documents from an event, it was a joy to design a framing solution.

The swimming trunks in question were signed by Tom Daley and were from the Olympics in Rio 2016. They had been donated by Adidas and Tom Daley and were auctioned at a Stonewall Equality Dinner.

At the 2016 summer Olympic games, Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow won a bronze medal in the synchronised 10m platform. Tom also set an Olympic record score in the individual 10m platform. I wonder if these were the very trunks he wore to gain these accolades?

Our customer won these at the auction and visited us so we could frame the items together creating a unique and fun piece of home decor….

So how did we frame them?

We worked with the customer to include all the relevant information within the frame and to choose the colours we want to pick out as their framing combinations.

As collectables of the future, we required a framing solution that would place these trunks into the right shape, whilst not damaging them during the process.

We stretched and stitched the trunks into place and ensured we fitted UV glass to prevent the signature from fading due to light exposure. All framing was completed to conservation standards and we were delighted to create a lasting memory and fun framed collection to be enjoyed for years to come.
